Bye, Bye Miss Renegade

Every year since 1998 I have had a model as Miss Renegade at the Sturgis rally to handout free postcards.  Here is a picture of last year’s Miss Renegade, Heather Johansen.  Heather is from South Dakota.  We won’t be giving out any postcards this year.  I don’t want to be sued by Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. (SMRI) for using the word “Sturgis” on a rally postcard and not paying them a licensing fee!  Hopefully by next year Miss Renegade and free postcards will be back and SMRI will be shut down.

Please check out the attachment.  It’s highly informative on the Conflict of Interests that is present on SMRI’s Board of Directors.

Do These Monkeys Ride?

Clarence “Pappy” Hoel founded the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  This is an undisputed fact.  Pappy owned an Indian motorcycle dealership, founded the “Jackpine Gypsies” motorcycle club in 1936 and on August 14, 1938 held the first motorcycle event that has grown into the Sturgis Rally.  Today a group calling themself Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. (SMRI) has taken over the name “Sturgis” and now has control of the rally.  I’m attaching a picture of the president and vice president of the Homeslice Group, Dean Kinney and his cousin Clint Brengle respectively.  The Homeslice Group controls the licensing for SMRI.  My question is, do these two monkeys even ride motorcycles?  I don’t think so!  In fact, if you look at all of the board members for SMRI, the only one that I know rides is the owner of Black Hills Harley-Davidson.

It’s a sad day when a huge motorcycle rally is being controlled by a pack of people who don’t even ride motorcycles!  I have two motorcycles, I ride often, and I put on several motorcycle events per year.  I know what bikers like and I can’t even get a license from SMRI to print T-shirts for the Sturgis rally like I’ve been doing since 1997.  It’s time to get rid of SMRI and all the trouble that their causing.  If they can’t ride a motorcycle, they sure shouldn’t control a motorcycle rally.

If you feel the same way I do, please throw your support behind “Concerned Citizens for Sturgis” and donate to help with the legal fight against SMRI.  Donations can be sent to:

Anyone who has had their business affected by Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. (SMRI) and does not mind going on the record, please call reporter Lynn Taylor Rick.  She is doing some articles about the fight with SMRI and I feel that she needs to be told the whole story.  I know that a lot of people that receive my email are afraid that SMRI may try to retaliate against them if they go to the news.  This is a chance to get your story told.  I’m sure SMRI doesn’t have anybody that’s going to call and support their take-over of the Sturgis Rally.

Huge Conflict of Interest

Attached please find the Articles of Incorporation for Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Inc. (SMRI).  You will notice that Jerry Berkowitz, president of Hot Leathers, is on the board of directors and you’ll find his name all over this document.  Jerry is a manufacturer of Sturgis souvenir items, a wholesaler of these items, a vendor of these items at the rally, as well as selling these items direct to the public on the internet.  Jerry could not possibly have any more conflicts of interest than he has as a director of SMRI.  Jerry is using the SMRI licensing program to keep his competitors from producing Sturgis Rally souvenirs.  Jerry is the puppet master that is pulling the strings of the other directors on SMRI’s board.  It is because of Jerry that most of the vendors who have supported the Sturgis Rally cannot make their own products this year.  Jerry has been talking to many vendors, encouraging them to “price fix” and sell their products at the prices he strongly suggests.  As Jerry is offering only a one year licensing agreement, those who do not sell at his recommended price will probably not have their licensing renewed.  The only way for SMRI to ever be fairly and evenly run is to get Jerry off the board immediately and license the many vendors he has offended.  Do I think that will happen?  Not a chance in hell.  That’s why the licensing issue is now moving to the federal court.

Here is a list of questions being sent to several media reporters in the Black Hills area and motorcycle publications nationwide.  A lot of press is being generated and more media people are getting involved as the rally draws near.

Concerned Citizens For Sturgis

MEDIA QUESTIONS FOR SMRI

1) If the groups “Black Hills Harley Davidson, and Hot Leathers/Good Sports Inc.” initially opposed the “STURGIS” and “BLACK HILLS” Trademarks being obtained by anyone, why did they create SMRI along with “Home Slice” to control and enforce these Trademarks, with such heavy hands? If they had such pure intentions in the beginning, what now is their purpose?

2) Who are the principals of SMRI and what interest do they represent?

3) If SMRI’s intent is noble why is the organization closed to additional members?

4) Where are the documents to prove SMRI has any legitimate title to their assumed power?

5) If philanthropy is SMRI’s goal why are major board members excluded from royalty contribution?

6) How do funds controlled by external private business (owned by a SMRI board member) end up in the control of the SMRI board?

7) Once funds are in the SMRI board’s control, what criteria is used for their dispersal?

Cool What guaranties are given that sometime in the future this board of SMRI does not transfer their control to a different group of people who’s intent is unknown?

9) In order to obtain the registration for the term “STURGIS”, a sworn statement to the U.S. Trademark office was made that STURGIS was exclusively used by the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce from 1987-2001. Anyone who is from this area well knows that this statement is False. How could SMRI, in good conscience, seek to enforce the STURGIS registration when it was obtained based on a lie?

10) If SMRI is such a benevolent philanthropy based organization, why was their first official act to crush and destroy a children’s charity in Kentucky?
